Who watches the watchmen? Apparently the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority, at least while the watchmen are pooping.
Municipal officials are defending their decision to install small security cameras inside mobile toilets after police were shocked to discover them at the Police Club, where the government’s crisis response agency operates from.
The toilet-equipped buses were provided by the BMA for use at the site by police and staff with the Center for Maintaining Peace and Order.
Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said CMPO staff who are honestly doing their duty should have nothing to worry about. While using the toilets.
“I don′t want to spy on anyone,” said Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra. “If the CMPO would like to question us, the BMA is willing to answer any question. But if CMPO has nothing to hide, then there is nothing CMPO should worry about.”
Cameras were found in both the men’s and women’s toilets inside the toilet paper holders near the sinks.
Officers who discovered the cameras were not happy, and the administration-backed CMPO is not exactly on the best terms with the opposition Democrat Party-controlled BMA.
Sanya Mingma of the BMA said six buses were sent to the Police Club at the request of CMPO staff, and the cameras were installed for “security reasons” after protests by redshirts in 2010, Khaosod reported.
