Hundreds camp out at Central Bangna to apply for passport

These days paying for your trip to Europe is a piece of cake compared to getting a new passport in Bangkok.

Due to the prolonged closure of the Chaengwattana Government Complex, hundreds of Thai citizens took a day leave from work to camp out in front of Central Bangna this morning to apply for their passport.

They say the line stretched out from the department store building all the way to the main road.

As the Offices of Passport Division at Central Bangna is limited to issuing 1,700 passports a day, the queue is up for grabs among those willing to show up at dawn, Morning News reported.

A Pantip user who went in to apply for his passport last week also shared this experience:

“I arrived at Central Bangna at 6.05am on a weekday, and I was queue No. 688. I had to wait until 12:30 for them call me,” the anonymous user wrote. “For your information, the queue cards were all given out at 9am, so you should come as early as you can.”

But not to worry. If you are not thrilled about queuing up for hours, stop by at the motorbike taxi service nearby. There has been a report that they are willing to facilitate your journey and queue for you for THB1,000 per customer.
