Marriage. It’s only a piece of paper, right? After Valentine’s Day, 10 newlywed couples will be able to say that just ain’t true.
Ten golden marriage licenses will be issued next Friday at the Bangrak district office at a special ceremony for couples who wish to be announced as man and wife legally on the day of love, according to Napachan Paisansutthi, the district’s deputy director.
Why Bangrak? Let’s have a learning moment here to explain. The “rak” of Bangrak means “love” in English, so the district’s name is essentially “Love Village.” Therefore, it is no surprise many Thai couples, who tend to be superstitious and obsessed with fortune, wish to register their marriage license in this district, which gives away gold marriage licenses annually.
This year the district will hold the gold marriage license give-away and free, public wedding ceremony at CAT Telecom, the state-owned company on Charoen Krung road.
The ceremony will run from 8am to 3pm. The first couple to show up will automatically receive a gold marriage license, while the other nine will be randomly given away in a drawing.
However, do expect less extravagance at the event this year as the district vows to keep the marital vowing simple due to the political unrest. So that means no Khan Mak parade, which is when groom joins his relatives and friends to sing his way over and marry the bride in her home, Daily News reported.
