“Next station: Siam. Doors will be open on the right-hand side of the train,” is probably her biggest hit, heard by millions of Thais, expats and tourists. But it’s not her only hit recording.
And there’s just something about the way she intones “Nana,” which sounds more like two words whispered soothingly: Naaa, naaa.
Head down from that angelic voice, below ground to where her counterpart sensibly warns, without fail: “Please mind the gap between trains and platform.” Sound advice.
There are real women behind those cool, female voices which for years have told passengers when to jump off the train every morning, voices you don’t really mind admonishing you not to lean on doors or eat. (We blame Khun BTS’ writers for the regrettable use of “stanchions” or “rectification.”)
Yet until now, few knew the faces behind the voices.
Up in the sky, the BTS voice belongs to Radklao Armradit, a Thai singer known for her song “Lom Hai Jai,” which is pretty much the basic crowd-pleaser song for any event.
Radklao also acts and received an award for the best supporting actress for the Thai movie “The Outrage,” in which she played a psychic, from Bangkok Critics Assembly in 2011.
Moving down to that haunting voice of the MRT underworld, Sarocha Pornudomsak is best known as the former co-host of the political show Muangthai Raisabdah with media mogul and yellow shirt leader Sondhi Limthongkul from 2003 to 2006.
Sarocha spent her childhood in the states before returning to pursue her career as a journalist in Thailand.
