MRT fares to increase in July

You might want to fill up that change jar before July, when the MRT will increase its fares.

Although the starting rate will remain the same at THB16, trips will be increased by one or two baht per trip – depending on travel distance – once approved, according to Yongsit Rojsrikul, director of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (BMTA).

The fare is part of the MRT’s concession, which mandates a fare increase every two years, the amount of which is decided by its board of directors.

The BMTA will propose the new ticket prices to the Ministry of Transportation for approval as a new fare structure is scheduled to go into effect July 3, MThai reported.
