Peche Di, a Bangkok-born transgender model, is featured in Barneys New York’s Spring 2014 campaign, which has photographed and documented 17 transgender individuals and their unique stories.
Barneys’ campaign “Brothers, Sisters, Sons & Daughters” launched last month to echo the voices of the transgender community and address their issues from bullying, discrimination, and abandonment to empowerment and self-confidence.
Shot by fashion photographer Bruce Weber, who’s worked for Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, the campaign partners Barneys’ with the U.S. National Center for Transgender Equality and the LGBT Community Center.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Peche reveals she is originally from Bangkok. After her struggles with bullies at an all-boys school, she transitioned to female with her family support and then enrolled at NYU to study film. Peche was “adopted” and mentored by New York artist Dorothy Palmer, who was also photographed by her side for the campaign.
“What I really want to be is an actress,” Peche said. “I want to tell my story on film.”
