Kantana to remake Thai version of ‘Gossip Girl’

Wakey, wakey, Upper East Siders because Gossip Girl is coming to Bangkok.

A production company famous for their nightly lakorn on Channel 7 has won the rights from Warners Bros. to produce an 18-episode local adaptation of “Gossip Girl,” the popular American TV series about the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elites, according to Variety.

Bangkok-based Kantana Group better bring the cutest boys, most expensive booze and perfect Blair to the show because the original Gossip Girl was a big hit among Thai girls seven years ago, some of whom still wear those headbands inspired by lead character Blair Waldorf.

Many netizens in the social network suggest it is impossible to beat the original version of the show, and they cannot imagine how things would go down.

“I can’t really imagine what the cast would look like.” one user commented.

In case Kantana is having a tough time re-imagining the storyline in Bangkok, here’s our pitch:

Blair Waldorf, the Thonglor hi-so girl and queen bee of Saint Joseph Convent School, is falling in love with bad boy Chuck Bass, whose family owns the prestigious Oriental Hotel.

Meanwhile, rich girl Serena van der Woodsen ditches the hi-so lifestyle and meets Dan Humphrey, a boy from a middle-class family in the Lat Phrao outskirts.

Dan’s sister Jenny is an aspiring fashion designer who uses this opportunity to hang out with the hi-so crowd although she has to ride a motorcycle taxi into the inner city every night.

And before the series becomes generally awful just as the original did, Bangkok can just shut down, ending the show prematurely.

Remember this catchy theme song?
