BKK Gov. Sukhumbhand could face snap re-election for post

Being forced to return his seat to the polls for a repeat election probably doesn’t bother Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra. He likes winning elections.

After being faulted for campaigning unfairly to win re-election last year, the high-profile governor said yesterday he will accept a possible election re-run.

The Election Commission had “yellow carded” Sukhumband for “propaganda” that hurt the public’s esteem for his opponents.

We thought that was just called politics, but apparently it violates Article 57 of the electoral code.

Commissioners will go to the Court of Appeals by Friday to for a decision on whether a new election is necessary, NNT reported.

Sukhumbhand is a heavy-hitter of the Democrat Party who’s served as governor since 2009 after his predecessor vacated the office.
