As cycling has become the fad of choice this past year, there are more and more bicycles pedaling around the risky roads of Bangkok. Those looking for a safer alternative can head out to Suvarnabhumi Airport’s recently announced cycling loop.

The idea came from Airports of Thailand Chairman Sita Divari, a cyclist himself, who realized the danger that happens when cyclists share lanes with cars, so he suggested developing the internal road around airport’s dam to be cycle-friendly.

It cost THB30 million to develop the new 23.5-kilomter loop along the one-way road. The lane is 4.8 meters wide. Cyclists can enjoy cycling in all weather and times of day with the help of the slurry seal surface and its bright green color.

“This new cycle lane offers one of the most beautiful views at the airport,” said airport Vice President Suthirawat Suwanawat. “We can see airplanes flying above our head. In the future, we might steal the most checked-in spot from the champion, Siam Paragon!”

It will open for public  use later this month. There’s no fee to ride the loop, but cyclists need to contact the airport’s Construction Management Office beforehand. You can drive to the airport or take Airport Link (ARL) to access to the green lane, Prachahat Online reported.
