Weekend Warrior: March 14, 2014

Welcome to the Weekend Warrior, wherein all the violence is simulated but the sex may be real. Also, check out our events for more happenings.

Friday

ART POP: Until Something Brings Us Back to Reason

V64 art studio is opening up its funky, refurbished warehouse space for a night of high-octane music and performance art. From the aqua-haired Blue Randôme to “techno-love explosion” specialist Pierre Bechon, these five performers come from very different walks of life, and three different continents combined.

7 pm. Free entry. V64 Art Studio, Chaeng Wattana Soi 1 Yak 6, Laksi.

HEADLESS CATS: Blue & Moi/Soi

The Adler Subhasok Gallery debuts two new exhibitions, Blue and Moi/Soi on Friday night, Blue comes from famed Thai photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom, whose name you may recognize from Shakespeare Must Die, the horror adaption of Macbeth controversially banned by the Thai film board. Meanwhile, Moi/Soi is a group exhibit of mish-mashed, emerging local talents. Look out for Palut Marod’s female faces draped in flowers and Kitikun Mankit’s “When I am crazy” – cat bodies with the disjoined heads floating in free space.

7 pm, exhibition runs until April 30. Free entry. Adler Subhashok Gallery, Sukhumvit 33. BTS Phrom Pong.

TRENDY B-DAY BASH: Liberty Area One Anniversary

It’s hard to believe Liberty Area One’s only celebrating its first year of business – after all, the shop above Ekkamai’s Burger Factory has become a local institution in vintage clothing and streetwear. Owner Nod-Nuanwan Tatong has called in the DJs from Spoiled Rotten to spin, and every guest gets to two drinks on the house – no wonder the Facebook event page is forecasting a sexy and sloppy affair.

6 pm. Free entry and two free drinks. Liberty Area One, Sukhumvit 63. BTS Ekkamai.

BROTHEL PARTY: One Night Love

We just wrote about brothel-cum-nightclub Black Pagoda, and now you can check it out for yourself this Friday night for Moreno & Dubb’s “One Night Love” affair. Felix Moreno & Jaydubb are back and will combine musical elements from their diverse Bangkok party ventures into a one-night-all-night melting pot of the most discerning house, techno and disco.

10pm. THB250 includes one drink. Black Pagoda, Patpong Soi 2. BTS Sala Daeng/MRT Silom.

Saturday

DEEP BLACK: Full Moon Party – Blue Moon edition

Ocean Bangkok hosts yet another all-day/all-night pool party but with some very promising entertainment – Berlin DJ duo Tiefschwarz. The brothers Schwarz (Ali and Basti) have made hip-shaking remixes for the likes of Madonna, Missy Elliot and Depeche Mode. Andrea S and Superstar Panda of the With Love crew support behind the decks.

2 p.m. until late. THB 500 including one drink (two for ladies dressed in blue or white). Ocean Bangkok, Sukhumvit 33. BTS Phrom Pong.

Sunday

BOOKWORM CALLING: Text-Swap Party

As part of the ongoing “Free Text” project, guests are invited to bring their favorite e-books and articles on USB sticks to this event. The goal is to not only uncover new reading material from the digital treasure chests of others, but the event also creates a dialogue about pirating and online transparency.

4 pm. Free entry. The Reading Room, Silom 19. BTS Surasak.

THONG LOR CHILL-OUT: WTF’s Block Party

The side soi that nestles WTF and Opposite Mess Hall is Sunday’s meeting point for an afternoon shindig. Check out stuff for sale, including art and vintage clothing and lots of yums – draft beer, cocktails, and eats courtesy of Opposite, La Monita, Soul Food Mahanakorn and Flour Shoppe. We’re especially excited for the Khao Soi bun, a joint effort from Opposite and Soul Food: a hot bun stuffed with khao soi curry, shallots, mustard pickles and crispy noodles. That raging hangover will be no match.

3 pm. Free entry. WTF Gallery and Café, Sukhumvit 51. BTS Thong Lor.

DUELING PIANOS: Two-Piano Recital

You know what they say – two pianos are better than one. Jerzy Sterczyński and Maria Sterczyńska put their pianos together to will works transcribed for two sets of keys, including Bach’s “Sheep May Safely Graze” and Rachmaninoff Suite No. 2, Op. 17. Proceeds go to Gift of Life, a charity that helps people suffering from blood disease. Check out the Facebook event page for how to reserve seats.

4 pm. THB 500. Sala Sudasiri Sobha, Lad Prao Soi 41. MRT Lat Prao.
