Landfill fire finally stops burning, free care available from Samut Prakarn Hospital

The raging landfill fire that poured toxic smoke into the skies of eastern Bangkok and Samut Prakan has been finally extinguished.

About 1,200 residents were affected, according to the Public Health Ministry permanent secretary, Dr Narong Sahametapat, many of whom suffered skin, eye and breathing problems.

Today the air quality has returned to acceptable levels, said Dr Namphol Danpipat, Samut Prakan’s deputy public health chief.

The impact of fire will continue to be monitored, and medical care will be provided for firefighters, security guards, correspondents, and residents living within 200 kilometer radius of the landfill at the Samut Prakarn Hospital free of charge.

Officials will also conduct environment monitoring, which includes inspecting for water, food, and air contaminations in order to secure the safety and confidence among people living nearby, NNT reported.
