In a video interview discussing his former life in Bangkok, philosophy professor Nelson Howe of New York shares his rich knowledge of Thai swear words with a straight face. The video has been widely shared since it was posted last night, racking up nearly 300,000 views in 24 hours.
“My favorite (swear) word is Yed because it is a convenient word,” Howe explains. “You can put anything behind it.”

When asked about his first experience with Thai swearing, Nelson says he did not quite get that it can involve the health condition of his father.
“Your father died!” an angry Thai man shouted at Howe for poaching a taxi.
“How did you know?” he replied.
This video is definitely truthful when it comes to the nature of Thai swearing, and watching someone who does not speak Thai as their first language reacting to it is somehow fulfilling, yed funny.
