Marching band’s principal temporarily reassigned

Satriwitthaya 2 School’s principal has been temporarily reassigned to other duties after his voice was heard on tape last week encouraging students to beg Ichitan’s CEO for money.

Principal Patcharapong Treetaepa has remained mostly silent while his band students have soaked the public outrage for pressuring businessman Tan Passakornatee into paying millions so they could travel abroad for a competition last month.

After the students guilted Tan into handing over THB3.1 million for travel to the Netherlands, they were forced to apologize after returning home to face intense criticism from the public, who felt they misrepresented their situation to fleece cash from a rich businessman known for his philanthropy.

Patcharapong will report to the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 2 starting Friday, revealed education official Sajja Sricharoen.

Education officials said they are investigating what happened, and Sajja stressed that Patcharapong has yet to be found guilty of any wrongdoing.

The transfer comes after many parents and alumni have demanded his resignation, Morning News reported.
