Sexy Taiwanese cosplayer’s T-shirt upsets Thai royalists

A video showing a Taiwanese model flaunting her kitties in a T-shirt bearing a royalist message sparked a debate among Thai netizens on its appropriateness.

Ma Yourong wore the green Thai shirt – heavily modified to accommodate her ample breasts – at an LGBT rights event in Taipei on March 16. This would probably have been a source of joy and pride, had she not selected a shirt commonly sold at anti-government protest sites in Bangkok – or any shirt for that matter.

Perhaps she was unaware it is emblazoned with the number nine in Thai, which refers to the Thai king, who is the ninth of his dynasty. Perhaps she didn’t know the back of the T-shirt reads: “We are people of the king,” written in Thai. Or perhaps she didn’t care, as she is not Thai.

Many locals upset by her choice of clothing took to the YouTube comments to express their unhappiness.

“Personally, I think this is inappropriate,” wrote user Thunyapong. “Sure, she can wear anything she wants, but that number nine means so much to us Thais. It’s an institution we respect.”

Meanwhile, some Thai men shrugged it off, pointing out that the model cannot read Thai and therefore should not blamed, Kapook reported.
