The militarization of the Thai capital continues with the additional of another 186 checkpoints intended to deter the daily cycle of bomb and grenade attacks.

Soldiers will stand side-by-side with police at the checkpoints, according to Deputy Commissioner Woraphong Chiewpricha of the Royal Thai Police.

Earlier this week, four high-explosive, 40-millimeter grenades fired from an M79 “Blooper” grenade launcher landed on the roof of a factory in the Yan Nawa district Tuesday night and exploded, shattering parts of the roof. Investigators and explosives ordnance disposal specialists suspect the grenades were intended for a Bangkok Bank training center near the factory.

A number of workers were working at the factory when the grenades struck; fortunately, no one was hurt, NNT reported.
