Souls of Bangkok: Boonsong of Buriram

SOULS OF BANGKOK — Boonsong, 43 of Buriram, comes to work in Bangkok during the dry season. He leaves his rice farm back home to work as a street vendor in the capital. He sells corn, taro and beans in an area bounded by Nang Lerng, the BMA City Hall and Old Siam Plaza. He loves working freelance as a seller for two reasons: freedom and cash.

“Both selling and farming jobs need huge investment,” he said. “Selling is better than farming because you can see income in cash every day while you have to wait for months or a year to get payment from farming.”

Souls of Bangkok is a Coconuts series of street portrait photography inspired by Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York. Every human has a story to tell, and we intend to share some from the millions of souls who call Bangkok home.
