Wet and Weird Warrior: Songkran 2014 Edition

Welcome to the Weekend Warrior, wherein we have an array of foam-soaked and suggestively wet selections for the Night Hawks of Songkran.

STRIP DOWN: GCircuit: Song Kran 8

Get out your neon trunks and glow sticks, and for Buddha’s sake lose that shirt! If you haven’t heard of GCircuit yet, it’s Asia’s massive gay party and this is the eighth Songkran edition thus far. The fun starts on Friday evening and carries on until the wee hours of Sunday with three devil-may-care theme parties (Fairytale, Cybertron and Amazonia) and two poolside get-togethers at the Imperial Queen Park Hotel. Saturday afternoon’s splash-fest is geared towards boys that love big, cuddly bears.

Friday to Sunday. THB 1,400 to 2,500. Day: Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel, Sukhumvit 22. BTS Phrom Pong. Night: Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Center, Central World. BTS Siam.

STAY DRY: Waterproof Songkran at Viva & Aviv

Viva & Aviv is declaring its riverside terrace a squirt-free zone this Songkran. But what it lacks in moisture, it will surely make up for in beats. Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the sun will go down to drum and bass courtesy of the Phatfunk crew. Sunday’s closer features Bangkok’s resident house-heads Dan Buri, Moodwax and Kimball Collins on the decks.

Friday to Sunday. THB 500 for one-day entry or THB 700 for three. Viva & Aviv, Soi Charoen Krung. Si Phraya Pier

PRA ARTHIT PARTY: Maha Songkran Party at Dickinson’s Culture Café

If you’re rampaging with a water gun on Khao San, do yourself a favour and also check out the soaked-up action on nearby Phra Arthit road. Dickinson’s is hosting a smorgasbord of musical festivities from Friday (progressive techno and trance) all the way to a closing party (psychedelic beats) on Thursday. Entry is free and getting rehydrated (from all that playing water, of course) is easy with cheap buckets and beers.

Friday to Thursday. Free Entry. Dickinson’s Culture Café, Phra Arthit Road

BIKINI-FEST: W Songkran Pool Party

This year’s swankiest Songkran party will surely be at the W Bangkok. Sexy bikinis and Super Soakers come together for by the pool. The main entertainment is graffiti artist Alex Face, who will be spray-painting a brand new mural beside the Wet Deck.
DJ Sezer Uysal, the winner of last year’s The Lab DJ showdown, provides the soundtrack.
