Dad shoots adopted son he claims abused him, wife for years

A 32-year-old man is in the hospital after his adoptive father shot him eight times yesterday at their home in Bangkok’s Yan Nawa district.

Responding to calls of a shooting at the Buppha Flat building, authorities found Arun Nuamchareon, 72, who turned himself in and confessed to unloading eight rounds into Petch Nuamchareon, his adopted son, striking him in many parts of his body.

Arun told police he pulled out the gun after bearing many years of abusive behavior from his drug-addict son, who frequently abused Arun and his wife.

The adoptive father added he shot Petch after the younger man asked his wife for some money yesterday morning.

Arun said Petch was a baby when he was adopted by him and his wife. They raised him as their own, Arun said, but as Petch grew up he turned to drugs and wouldn’t find a job, Khaosod reported.

Under questioning, Arun said Petch was in prison for a drug-related conviction for five years before his release in 2010.

Arun was charged with attempted murder, but the police investigation is ongoing.
