Best of Bangkok: Restaurants!

Despite Thailand being the home of dishes like world-renowned Pad Thai and Massaman curry, the restaurants most popular with our readers are Western.

Coconuts recently ran a reader’s survey to get an idea of your faves and raves, from parks and malls to nightclubs and restaurants. Today is our final installment of the results, the epic conclusion, the grand finale: The Best Restaurants of Bangkok 2014!

Asked what your favorite dining spots were, more than 1,000 readers responded with almost as many different places from a first-class fusion restaurant where Norwegian salmon is poked at with chopsticks to freaky feasts like bull penis soup at MBK Center.

But a few favorites did win consensus, so here are the winners, according to you:

1. Bourbon Street

Blackened salmon at Bourbon Street.

A fully American-owned and operated restaurant, Bangkok’s Bourbon Street Pub on Ekkamai Soi 63 is known for its cajun and creole dishes such as boiled crawfish, blackened fish and gumbo. To please Thai palettes, diners can also find a host of other popular American favorites including buffalo wings, pork ribs, and tenders for a fair price. Photo: Bourbon Street

2. La Monita

Burrito delicioso!

Until recently fans of cilantro-soaked frijoles, queso y carne had some pretty lousy choices. Amid overpriced mall chain and shadier competition, La Monita has been a popular destination for Mexican cuisine for nearly five years. Conveniently located steps away from the BTS Phloen Chit station, La Monita’s burritos, tacos, and quesadillas are served hot and fresh while the weekly specials like barbacoa, ceviche and lengua are added for the excitement of true Mexican foodies. Did we mention: Salsa bar? Photo: La Monita

3. Opposite Mess Hall

Spicy, fatty, messy corn on the cob.

Owned and run by the same creators of popular WTF bar and gallery, Opposite Mess Hall offers an exciting selection of cocktails including Celery Stalk where Tequila is mixed with muddled celery and lemon juice. When it comes to food, the chef here mixes ingredients not commonly seen on the same plate. Imagine the typical Chinese bun filled with pickled cucumber and sour kimchi on top of buttermilk fried chicken. Photo: Opposite Mess Hall
