Israeli officials have asked for improved security in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok in response to reports of an alleged plot to attack Israeli tourists there.

The request from Israel’s embassy for additional protection of tourists in the popular Khao San Road area comes one week after police arrested two men they say planned attacks on Jewish visitors.

Police suspect two Lebanese-born men, Daoud Farhat and Youssef Ayad, of France and the Philipinnes respectively, of being associated with Hezbollah and arrested the pair after Irael notified Thailand of a potential plot.

Neither man has been charged with any crime due to a lack of evidence, Immigration Bureau chief Phanu Kerdlarppol told the Bangkok Post.

The two men were arrested at hotels near the red light district of Sukhumvit Soi 4.
