Political paintings smuggled out of Myanmar to show for first time

For the first time since they were smuggled out of Myanmar, a collection of political works smuggled to Bangkok some years ago will be shown starting Saturday.

The works were created between 1995 to 2005 by Artist Myint Swe, and were deemed too sensitive to show before. Now the Burma is opening and stabilizing – while Thailand trends the other way – Thavibu Gallery will feature them in an exhibition titled “Burma: The Quiet Violence.”

The reception starts at 5pm on Saturday, and the exhibition runs through May 24.

The gallery, located on the third floor of The Silom Galleria, is closed Sundays.
