A man who robbed a Thai Post reporter and slashed his throat was sentenced to 10 years in prison this morning, but his victim said that punishment didn’t fit the crime.
The Criminal Court sentenced Saran Chumin, 24, for beating and robbing Suwat Panchawong for his mobile phone and tablet computer before fleeing with an accomplice by motorbike in March, 2013 on Ratchada Soi 36.
However, the reporter says he will file his own civil complaint against his attackers as he felt their punishment was too light.
Suwat said he’ll seek more damages because he still needs frequent, expensive physical therapy, Thai TV 3 and Manager reported.
He was seriously injured in the attack and was rescued by a taxi driver.
Saran and motorbike accomplice Preecha Wararam made full confessions to police. Preecha received a jail sentence of six years and four months. Both men were ordered to pay THB200,000 in damages to Suwat.
