As every Thai woman learns from society, there are two paths to pride and achievement: becoming a flight attendant or winning a beauty pageant.
Forty young women have a shot at the latter after being selected Miss Universe Thailand finalists from 372 applicants Saturday. And while the international pageant is known for giving the crown to Eurasian-looking girls, this year’s contestants actually look Thai – some even sport some skin tone.
After singing and dancing their way into the finals at the talent show at Raewadee Studio on Phaya Thai Road, the ladies next will travel to Roi Et province for pageant activities next week before competing for the diamond crown May 17 at the Siam Paragon shopping mall.
The winner will represent Thailand at the Miss Universe 2014 pageant to be held later this year.
