Those 2G SIM cards will soon become useless

Still rockin’ the double-Gs on 1,800 MHz of spectrum?

The masters of the telecom universe are warning anyone still using 2G service from AIS or True Move that their phones will go dark in less than four months.

Licenses for that section of broadcast frequencies will lapse before going to auction in November to make way for 4G service.

Prawit Lisathaphonwongsa of the National Broadcasting and Telecomunication Comission said the service, already extended due to the number of remaining subscribers, will end Sep. 15.

About four million customers remain subscribed to the TrueMove network while only about 1,000 remain on AIS, NNT reported.
