TrueVisions strikes deal to air World Cup

The World Cup kicks off this weekend, and all 64 matches will be available on TrueVisions.

In an agreement reached yesterday with the company holding the broadcast rights to the event, TrueVisions is now fully licensed to broadcast all World Cup matches.

RS International Broadcasting and Sport Management, who have so far been successful in their fight to prevent the games from being shown on free television, agreed to license all matches and special programming related to the event. That means Thai viewers can see the games through a paid RS box, or TrueVisions’ HD customers.

Twenty-two free matches will be available on channels 7 and 8, including the opening and final matches.

RS has reportedly sold 300,000 boxes, short of its goal of one million.

TrueVisions said the deal will make World Cup programming available to 2.4 million subscribers, Bangkok Post reported.

Thai broadcast regulators previously ordered that all matches must be broadcast on free television and appealed an April court decision in RS’ favor.
