Police to take another stab at bringing order to chaos at Victory Monument

Centrally located at a junction of major roads, public transportation and a highway, Victory Monument is one of the nation’s busiest transit hubs.

Officials are now seeking to regulate its unofficial role as the center of a nationwide private transportation network, announcing a series of new rules for private passenger vans.

Metropolitan traffic police and military officials yesterday announced their plans to streamline queues and boarding areas. Vans will only be allowed to stop for a limited time, and a dedicated area will be created for selling tickets and queueing. Meanwhile a permanent parking area will be created at the Makkasan Airport Link station.

Additionally, all van operators will need to register their vehicles and display special plates, Bangkok Post reported.

A previous, similar initiative was announced one year ago.
