Man seeks compensation after jailed for punching ladyboy who groped his junk

A man who says he was unfairly jailed for assaulting a ladyboy who groped his penis and accused him of robbing her is demanding justice – in cash form.

Piyapong Panchaisri, 30, filed a compensation claim with the Ministry of Justice yesterday

for what he claims was an unjust sentence for a crime he did not commit back in 2006, when he struck a ladyboy who’d seized his penis during a roadside piss break.

“After I was sentenced to jail, I tried to appeal the case,” he told the media. “I ended up spending my time in prison and was released in 2011. Last year the Appeal Court fined me 500 baht for the physical assault and dismissed the robbery because there was not enough evidence.”

His four-year, eight-month sentence was for assault and robbery.

Although Piyapong admitted in court to punching the ladyboy, he said it was a response to the sudden sexual assault and insisted he did not rob her. He’d stopped on Ratchada Road to urinate, he said, when the ladyboy, whose name was withheld, approached and grabbed his penis.

At that point, he said she fell and dropped her purse on the road just as a police police passed by and saw the altercation. The woman told police Piyapong had robbed and beat her.

Piyapong said he filed the complaint with the ministry’s Rights and Liberties Protection Department for his time served. The organization will consider whether Piyapong should be eligible for compensation. Under the law, a citizen who has been wrongly incarcerated is eligible to receive THB50,000 for mental health recovery and less than THB400 for each day spent in prison, Khaosod reported.
