Train rapist was SRT employee, says he raped twice before

The rail worker who raped a 13-year-old passenger before throwing her from a sleeping compartment window Sunday night told police it wasn’t his first time, but he killed her because he feared she would tell someone.

Wanchai Saengkao, 22, reportedly confessed to having raped two female railway employees in the past, both of whom he said were too embarrassed to report the crime. After getting away twice, Wanchai decided to rape his third victim,  Kochakorn “Kaem” Pitakjumnong, whom he decided to kill because he feared she would go to police.

Although a forensic examiner said yesterday Kaem died from the fall, Wanchai told police he tried to strangle her to death but wasn’t sure if she was dead when he pushed her out the window.

Also, despite yesterday’s claims by railway chief Prapat Chongsanguan that Wanchai was a private contractor, the rapist appears to have been hired last month as a full employee of the State Railway of Thailand, according to an employment announcement previously published online by the railway. Someone subsequently deleted the notice after word of it spread through the media.

In fact, in what appears to be his Facebook page, Wanchai poses in an official SRT uniform.

Wanchai appears to have been hired despite having a criminal record which includes at least accusations of illegal drug use.

Before the raping Kaem, Wanchai admitted to getting high on yaba and drinking alcohol with two other workers whom the police suspect were involved or witnessed in the crime.

After raping her, Wanchai searched the girl’s bag and threw her stuff out the window along the way while keeping her iPhone, which he sold in Bangkok for THB1,800.

Wanchai has been formally charged for raping a minor under 15, murder and theft, Morning News and Daily News reported.
