Apex raises (some) ticket prices at Lido and Scala

The sun rises in the east, our planet rests at a 23-degree tilt, comedies from Isaan feature a funny ladyboy and movie tickets at Lido and Scala are always 100 baht.

One of those things ain’t true anymore.

Last Thursday, Apex theaters, owner of Lido and the endangered national treasure that is Scala confirmed rumors some ticket prices will increase to offset higher costs for utilities and contracts.

At Lido, all three theatres will be divided into two tiers: THB120 and THB100. Seats at Scala will be sold at three different prices: THB100/120/140. Early bird tickets on weekends will still be THB80 at both theaters.

That’s still about half the price for newer cinemas across the street, but without the authentic art-house feel of Lido or faded-opulent glamor of Scala, Thailand’s only single-screen cinema. Both theaters are still threatened by demolition by landowner Chulalongkorn University.

Good news: Popcorn and drink still THB30.
