Sleep-deprived bus driver plows into motorcycle taxi stand

Three motorcycle taxi operators were injured when an exhausted minibus driver lost control and drove into their queuing stand in Din Daeng district last night.

After reportedly working 51 hours in three days, the driver of minibus No.12 drove into the taxi stand and a store at Promphan intersection on Soi Prachasongkroh 14 yesterday evening, severing the leg of one of the motorcyclists.

The accident also damaged a number of motorcycles and a pickup truck.

Driver Boonsa Jarujit said he had barely slept in three days and worked 17 hours each day. It was his fourth round of the day when he fell asleep.

Boonsa was checked for alcohol and drugs, but police said he didn’t test positive for any substances.
