Thai Airways ‘deep cleaning’ the Ebola away

Thai Airways International is taking preventative measures against Ebola outbreak and implemented health precautions for its passengers travelling in and out of Bangkok.

The airline designated 36 areas of cabins most-touched by passengers for “deep cleaning,” will continue to not fly to infected nations and will “monitor” foreign travelers to the kingdom.

Thai Airways still operates three direct flights each week to Johannesburg, South Africa, which is free of Ebola.

Meanwhile the airline does not fly to nations currently affected by the recent outbreak such as Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, the airline’s top safety official, Pongpera Paisarnkulwong said.

Officals with the Thai national airline said they are deeply concerned with the Ebola outbreak, and are preparing measures relating for screening tourists visiting Thailand, from ground operations to on-board services, such as monitoring foreign tourists who could be carriers of the deadly virus, said Pongpera.

Elsewhere Health Ministry officials have instructed provincial health offices to help airports to screen passengers traveling from West African countries and to prepare a quarantine section in local hospitals, according to state media. Officials are urged to contact the Department of Medical Sciences if any residents display symptoms of Ebola.
