A Thai Lion Air flight made an emergency return to Hat Yai’s airport when a pilot fell into a coma 20 minutes after taking off yesterday.
Dutch co-pilot Peter Esberte collapsed on the pilot deck of Bangkok-bound flight SL8537 and died en route to the hospital after the plane’s emergency landing.
Thai Lion Air flight operations chief Worawut Kongkositkul said Esberte had a clean bill of health and had flown with the airline since it began operating one year ago. A cause of death was yet to be determined, but Esberte’s heart reportedly suffered failed during the flight, Bangkok Post reported.
After returning to Hay Yai at 1:21pm, the flight enventually made its landing at Don Mueang at 4:05pm.
