US Ambassador Kenney participates in bizarre, watery rites

Kristie Kenney, U.S. ambassador to Thailand, accepted the ice bucket challenge from former Transport Minister Chatchart Sittipant yesterday.

In a short video clip uploaded to Instagram, Kenney clasps her turquoise-painted nails and winces through her icy dousing to become one of the highest profile political figures in Thailand to accept the challenge. A junta spokesman has said he’s “considering” the challenge while Prime Minister Army Commander-in-Chief Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha has not responded to one issued earlier this week.

“Can’t choose just one [charity],” Kenney posted on Twitter and Instagram. “Join me in supporting charities of your choice. Volunteer, make a difference.”

Col. Winthai Suwaree, spokesperson for the military junta said he wasn’t accepting the challenge but would “think about it first,” Khaosod reported. He was challenged by the talk show host with Voice TV, a channel taken off the air by the military after the coup.

“Charity is a good thing, but an activity that I have to pour water over myself? I have to study it in detail first,” Winthai said.
