Second suspected Ebola case dismissed by health officials

Another Ebola scare has been put to rest after health officials determined her rash was not the work of the deadly virus.

A recent laboratory test on a 48-year-old woman who recently visited ebola-affected Liberia showed no signs of infection, said Naron Sahamethapat, permanent secretary of the Public Health Ministry.

The unidentified woman, who arrived in Bangkok last Wednesday, will nevertheless have to remain in the hospital for further monitoring.

While she has a history of being allergic to many things, her rashes did not match those resulting from Ebola, which causes skin to peel and bleed. The woman also had a healthierl evel of blood platelets than those typically found in an Ebola patient.

Thirteen people who came into contact with the woman were also found to be in normal condition after being monitored by the ministry.

Other African countries hit by the virus outbreak include Guinea, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone, where about 1,500 have died since March, according to the World Health Organization.
