Streets of fear conjured in dual photo exhibition at Kathmandu

Whether political violence or poverty, their convergence in the streets is where two photographic series will blend to create “Red Dream & Black Rites” by Harit Srikhao.

Red Dream retells the artists’ nightmares from the 2010 political violence when the artist was 15 and the residual effects he witnessed on the streets at the time, when an unexpected 10 kilomter walk led him on a nightmare journey through gangs of teenage runaways, prostitutes, packs of feral dogs and more.

Black Rites is a study of street kids in Cambodia through a perspective seeking to neither stigmatize nor judge. It was part of his work while participating in a photo workshop in Siem Reap in 2011.

The opening reception starts at 6.30pm on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Kathmandu Photo Gallery just off lower Silom Road.
