Pregnant dog and puppy hanged to death at gas station

A construction worker has been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly hanging a pregnant stray dog and her boy puppy at a gas station southeast of Bangkok in Chonburi after images of the incident provoked outrage yesterday.

Photos of two dogs hung by nylon cord from a parking awning at an NGV gas station were shared by thousands yesterday, and many demanded punishment for the animals’ killer.

Facebook user Sua Sawadee, who took the photos (Warning: graphic), said many people witnessed the cruel scene but nobody dared to bring the dead dogs down at the time she arrived.

Employees said they discovered the dead dogs yesterday morning when arriving at work. The female dog had been lodging at the gas station for more than three years and constantly produced puppies, including the one that was hanged.

Police identified Mana Nattheeprasert, 44, a construction worker who lives near the gas station as the killer based on witnesses’ statements. The police have contacted him and will charge him with animal cruelty, Spring News reported.

The punishment for animal cruelty is THB1,000 and/or one-month jail term.
