German beggar on Khaosan Road rescued

A German tourist who became a beggar on Khaosan Road was rescued by tourist police on Friday after his story was shared online.

Benjamin Holse, 29, was given a free stay on Friday night at the V.S. Guesthouse by Deutscher Hilfsverein Thailand, an organization that helps German citizens in Thailand, after he became homeless.

Benjamin reportedly entered Thailand three weeks ago and lost all his money and passport. He started begging for money last week and had been fed by a local in the area.

Benjamin was sent to the German Embassy on Saturday morning, according to Thailand Police Story.

The story of Benjamin became viral last week when a Facebook user spotted “a poor farang beggar with a big foot” on Khaosan Road and shared his photos.

Jeab Kamolwan Nontapodej, who found Benjamin, said she offered to help him, but the tourist said he’d rather wait for his friend to pick him up.

Either way, glad to see he’s safely on his way home.
