From Chiang Rai to Narathiwat, harmony and unity spilled across the kingdom yesterday as news spread of Dog Waiter.
Once just the highlight of a humble restaurant in Nakhon Pathom, Dog Waiter’s winning smile and delight in serving his betters could be a welcome salve for a world burning from crises of deadly plagues to transnational terrorism.
Once known simply as “Barry,” Dog Waiter’s road to greatness began last year when his human companion Kallaya Kaewkwan, 49, first noticed his unusual intellect when he tried to pay an ice merchant by carrying some leaves in his mouth.
Sensing Barry’s potential, Kallaya began rewarding him with delicious grilled pork or meatballs every time he tried imitating her actions.
Today the bright-eyed half-poodle deftly collects money from his customers – and even returns with the change.
“The customers are impressed by Dog Waiter’s cuteness and intelligence,” Kallaya said. “They keep coming back because they miss him. Barry is very helpful especially at lunch time when the restaurant is busy.”
Kallaya said Barry even remembers her regular customers and automatically fetches the money from them, but for unfamiliar faces, he politely waits for her command, Khaosod.
After pictures and video spread of Dog Waiter in recent days, people everywhere said they just can’t imagine getting too upset about well, anything, in a post-Dog Waiter world.
