How many eggs have you eaten today? Is that it? You can do better than that, according to the egg industry, for no better reason than it’s making more eggs; and therefore, you need to eat more eggs.

On a completely unrelated note, Thailand’s first ever World Egg Day will be organized next month by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to boost the “national egg consumption” of every person from 200 eggs to 300 eggs per year by 2018.

Why does the world need an egg day? Because we need to eat more eggs, because more eggs are being made. (This was already explained.)

What’s a World Egg Day? Something cooked up by global agribusiness as the kind of marketing propaganda which today flies under the euphemism of “corporate social responsibility.”

Nirandon Euangtrakunsuk of the Livestock Development Department said the government was “inspired” by the Egg Board’s goal to increase national egg consumption, according to state media.

“The total amount of eggs in the market is expected to be 39.2 million in October, higher than the current amount of 38.8 million. It is therefore necessary for the ministry to increase the national egg consumption so that it is in balance with the increasing egg supply.”

In short, people should eat more eggs because more eggs are being made.

The event starts Oct. 10 at Siam Square One under the banner of “Thai children love eggs” with egg-cellent activities and egg-stravagant giveaways.

If this is at all unclear, don’t worry. Just open your mouth and put an egg in it.
