A troubled woman self-immolated herself at a government office in the capital this morning after complaining it would not help her.
Sangwien Raksapetch, 54, set herself afire after reportedly traveling from Lopburi province to seek help from the Office of the Civil Service Commission in the Dusit district with a complaint about an exploitative creditor.
Sangwien had reportedly used a title deed to secure a loan but believed the creditor took advantage of her.
The office said its staff was making phone calls to her district to collect more information when Sangwien exclaimed “You can’t help me, can you?”
At that point she took out a bottle of gasoline from her bag and poured the fuel over herself before igniting it with a lighter.
The staff helped extinguish the fire before admitting her to Vajira Hospital where she remains in critical condition, Spring News reported.
