Muay Thai legend Buakaw has been selected to star in a United Nations campaign against violence toward women.
Champion of World Muaythai Council, Sombat “Buakaw” Banchamek was chosen along with Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao and Julio César Chávez of Mexico.
A television spot will launch in November, starting in Mexico.
“We’re here to show some spirit. We might be aggressive in the ring, but we don’t use violence with women,” Buakaw said.
For its campaign, the United Nations has chosen three tough guys revered by men in media markets notorious for a certain tolerance for misogyny
Buakaw said the most important woman in his life is his mother, who passed away from an accident when the fighter was 15, Thai PBS reported.
