More time spent reading in the realm

The habit of reading is growing in Thailand, according to new statistics from none other than the National Statistical Office.

On average across the nation, people spend 37 minutes reading every day, an increase of two minutes over the previous survey results two years ago.

The most reading is happening in Bangkok followed by the central and southern areas, according to the report. Increasing literacy and nurturing reading has been a public policy priority for years and has included considerable support for promoting the many book fairs which now draw enormous crowds.

The survey strictly defined “reading” to not include casual web browsing or Facebooking. It reported books and journals were more read than the internet, followed by tablets and smart phones, according to Thai PBS.
