Authorities believe parts of a human body found stuffed inside two canvas bags in a canal east of Bangkok last night belong to an elderly Japanese man missing since last month.
Police went searching last night for the remains of Yoshinori Shimato, a 79-year-old Japanese teacher, after his female friend Pornchanok Chaiyapa and her boyfriend Somchai Kaewbangyang confessed to dissecting and dumping Yoshinori’s body east of Bangkok in Nang Tim Canal, Samut Prakan province.
Shimato wouldn’t be the first Japanese man to end up dead in the life of Pornchanok, 47, who said called on him to discuss unspecified personal problems at his home in Samut Prakan on Sept. 21.
She claimed that Yoshinori suffered from heart disease and dropped dead on his own, at which point she and Somchai panicked and decided to get rid of his body.
Doing so apparently required chopping it up into pieces and putting them into four canvas fertilizer bags, two of which were recovered last night.
Forensic experts were called to the scene at the canal late Tuesday to try and match the body parts to the missing man.
A missing persons case was originally filed late last month by the man’s son, Tetsuo Shimato, who traveled from Japan to provide information about Pornchanok, the woman his father had described a relationship with.
According to the Japanese Times, she was arrested along with Somchai in Ang Thong province last week on theft charges after she used Shimato’s ATM card to withdraw THB700,000.
Police describe a Pornchanok as a black widow with an appetite for Japanese men.
They say she has dated several Japanese men including Kashitoshi Tanaka, who died after falling down some stairs in 1999. Police ruled it an accident and Pornchanok received THB3 million insurance money, Tnews and Khaosod reported.
