Party’s Over: All beach parties but one banned on popular resort islands

All festivals on popular resort islands in Surat Thani province except for one notable exception will be indefinitely banned for security reasons.

Cutting the party opportunities on Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui is intended to prevent crimes in the popular tourist areas as such parties are often an “assembly of temptations” which lead to crimes, Surat Thani governor Chatpong Chatphudi said.

Those “temptations” are arguably the foundation the islands’ economies, but no immediate response was offered by the business community.

The Full Moon party on Haad Rin, which generates THB10 billion per year, has been exempted from the rule due to its popularity while other parties including Half Moon, Black Moon, and Jungle Experience parties have been indefinitely banned.

However operators can still organize parties on public property if they get approval from the governor, Khaosod reported.
