Koh Chang monk quits monkhood after babe-hugging scandal

A friendly monk from a Koh Chang temple decided to quit the monkhood after photos of him getting a little too friendly with female tourists upset his community.

Phra Supoj, who quickly left his Khlong Prao temple after the incident, reportedly quit the monkhood last night in response to the scandalous photos and asked his relatives to send a photo of himself wearing normal clothes to the Koh Chang headman as confirmation.

Headman Nitikorn Kawirawan said he cannot directly contact Supoj, who was a monk for six years, and his relatives only say he has moved back with the family in Uthai Thani province.

“I just know he’s taking care of his sick father, and his relatives have come to temple to pack his stuff,” Nitikorn said. “It is a good thing Mr. Supoj took responsibility for his actions and ended the story quickly.”

Nitikorn added Koh Chang locals have stopped gossiping about the scandal, Khaosod reported.
