‘Tis the Season: Prayuth teases stimulus ‘surprise’

Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha wants to be everyone’s Secret Santa this year.

The junta chief announced his government will present a New Year’s gift to Thailand in the form of an unspecified, surprise economic stimulus.

“It will be a New Year’s gift for the people,” Prayuth said after the Tuesday cabinet meeting.

Prayuth was coy about what the largess will entail, and said he didn’t want to spoil the surprise.

“It will be another ‘surprise’ package, but I’m not giving anything away!” he said.

All ministries will be tasked with spending intended to make people happy, the Bangkok Post reported.

After seizing power and vowing to rid the country of “populist” government handouts, Prayuth also foretold of nearly 163 unspecified laws in the works that will benefit people, particularly low-income earners.
