Texas rape suspect accused of raping students in Thailand

A 47-year-old teacher accused of raping and assaulting women in Thailand and Texas was arrested last night east of Bangkok.

Thomas Andrew Erickson was arrested in Samut Prakan province on warrants from a Thai criminal court and also Denton County, Texas.

He was wanted locally on charges he raped and physically assaulted a female jewelry shop employee in February, 2011, but since word of his arrest has spread, several of his former students have stepped forward to say he attacked and raped them but didn’t report it out of fear.

While he was the run, Erickson used his fake passports to apply for English teaching in different schools including Sarasas Witaed Romklao School in Bangkok, Saint Joseph’s Bangna School, Udomsuksa Rangsit School and two others in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, according to police.

In forged documents, Erickson also went by “Andrew Gillis Mclean” and UK citizen “Barry Stuart Wolfenden.” Before his arrest, Erickson was running his own language school called “EDD” in Khon Kaen province.

Several Thai women said Erickson raped them while he was their teacher, but said they were too embarrassed to report the crime and feared the stigma it would have on their reputations.

Several victims independently said Erickson was known to have a bipolar disorder. They said he cannot control himself and beat them while raping them, Manager and Bangkok Post reported.
