John Axani, the man who sought a woman with his ex’s name to join him on a lavish vacation holiday has chosen a “Elizabeth Gallagher” from his native Canada to take her spot. Only one catch: She already has a boyfriend.
Elizabeth Gallagher, a 23-year-old student who volunteers at a homeless shelter, was selected for her “impressive social consciousness” to go on a vacation with Axani, a 28-year-old real estate development manager from Toronto.
Axani broke the internet when he posted on Reddit about a fairly wicked trip around the world he’d booked for his ex before their relationship fell apart. As it was impossible to change the name on the ticket, he searched for a woman with the same name to join him.
Axani said their relationship will be “strictly platonic” as Gallagher already has a boyfriend, who is less than happy his girlfriend will hop on a plane with another man this Sunday.
“He understands that I’ve always wanted to travel, so while he’s not happy I’m taking off for nearly a month at Christmas with a random guy, he’s smiling through it,” Gallagher said.
Their journey starts Sunday from New York and will bring them to Bangkok and also Milan, Prague, Paris and New Delhi.
“It definitely did seem a little bit creepy at the beginning, but now that I talked to (Axani), it’s less creepy and more awesome,” she said.
Marriott International has stepped in to sponsor the two with separate rooms at each stop, as Axani said he didn’t book any rooms because he’d stopped planning the trip after the break-up, Daily Mail reported.
