A Russian man has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer while under custody in the north of Thailand.
Two days after two totally high, armed Russians were found sitting in a Buddhist chapel and dressed as monks, one of them used a hidden blade to shank a police officer Tuesday while the men were being transferred from a police station in Pai, Mae Hong Son province, to immigration authorities.
Voge Vladimir stabbed Lt. Prasert Puttawong’s in the head and wrist with another knife he’d kept under his clothes after he was arrested along with Kubik Kachchek on Sunday for vandalism and theft inside a temple there. The two men were found seated in monks’ robes, with knives laid across their laps, according to reports from Khaosod English.
“We were waiting for the suspects’ relatives to wire money from abroad to pay for damages at the temple,” police Col. Worapol Polmanee said. “But then [Vladimir] used his knife to attack a police officer.”
Charges had been dropped after the temple abbot “forgave” the two marauding Russians; however, they tested positive for narcotics.
Prasert was seriously injured in the attack but is expected to recover.
Kachchek reportedly helped officers subdue Vladimir and will be deported. Vladimir now faces a charge of attempted murder of a police officer in Thailand.
