A truck driver took to the internet to complain Saturday after he was fined for wearing hideous and apparently illegal shoes behind the wheel.
After Sorapong Butsatorn posted photos of the shoes for which he was fined during a stop by Sriracha police Thursday for violations including his poor choice in footwear, traffic police have come out to defend the story and confirm that, yes, commercial truck drivers must wear proper shoes.
Sorapong was fined THB2,000 for illegally tinted windows, missing transport documents and “inappropriate attire.”
Among other charges such as having tinted windows and not having transport documents, police wrote “wearing inappropriate attire (sandals)” in the ticket. Photo: Sorapong Butsatorn
In its response, the Traffic Police said that while it may seem ridiculous, it’s the law under the 1979 Vehicle Act. Transport or service drivers must dress in the following manner:
1. Top: a collar shirt (either long or short-sleeved). Shirt must be tucked in trousers or skirt.
2. Bottom: Trousers or modest skirt
3. Footwear: Wear appropriate shoes
This would mean no Crocs, Croc-alikes or other ugly sandals, at least for truck drivers. At least that’s a good start.
